Scoop School: Preventative Maintenance ❄

Posted on

In this segment of Scoop School we get some insight on how to prevent weathering from damaging our machines during an off season.
In the colder months, your ice cream sales may see a slight decrease. You don't want your used ice cream machines or your batch freezers to experience maintenance issue from simple overlooked things such as standing water. Standing water in the machine can freeze during your winter season, especially if they're not being actively used.
Scoop School suggests getting in contact with your manufacturer at the beginning of the winter season, and at the end of the winter season for preventative maintenance (PM). Your technician can clean out water pipes, detect standing water so it doesn't freeze and crack your pipes, and overall teach you the proper technique to keep your machine from contracting any damage from inactivity. A lot of the time ice cream shops may close or discontinue certain ice cream machines and batch freezers for a couple months.
Whether your shop serves ice cream, soft serve, frozen yogurt, Gelato, or all of the above; you still run the risk of having an off-season. During this time you wouldn't want to lose out on the quality of your product just because the weather has changed.
PM is essential in the ice cream business because if you want to keep your customers satisfied. You wouldn't want to be the ice cream shop that only serves good ice cream in the summer. Serve top notch frozen desserts all year round' by having your machines winterized.
