Sweet Ritual

Posted on

Sweet Ritual has become a staple in Austin. This dairy free parlor has a wide assortment of products that cater to people with dietary restrictions. They first opened in 2011, Amelia was working at a toy store that offered frozen desserts. Fellow owner Valerie was working at Amy's Ice Cream Store. The start of their venture was very serendipitous. After the toy store closed Amelia was left with equipment as well as product. They decided to join forces in their love of ice cream and set up shop in a local juice bar. They attended Malcolm Stogo’s Ice Cream University in West Orange, New Jersey where they  learned a plethora of skills and techniques.
They began to experiment with flavors and base products. After much popularity they decided to open their own brick and mortar. What sets their vegan ice cream from others is that they are based with different kinds of butters, some you would least expect. They include, coconut butter, peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter, and even sunflower butter. They will be celebrating their 8th anniversary this year, and certainly have a lot to show for.
Amelia’s favorite part of the experience is taking care of the employees and helping them hone their skills. They currently use a 24 quart Emery Thompson batch freezer as well as a Taylor machine for their soft serve needs. A favorite product of hers that they have to offer is Death Metal by Chocolate which includes pieces of gluten free chocolate chip cookies, tapioca syrup, sugar, safflower oil, vanilla extract, and a sunflower seed butter base. The best technological innovation Amelia would like to see is an increase in dipping cabinet shelf life. Sweet Ritual is currently located in grocery stores in the central Texas area. With Austin being the dairy free capital of the world, they are proud to be part of such an inclusive industry.
What sets their Cool School apart from others is that it is a five day intensive course. Most people enrolled in the course become fast friends, they spend hours in the kitchen and it is very hands on. During the course they give a tour of different ice cream shops around Austin to fully expose their students to different ice cream concepts. The Cool School also helps its enrollees with the logistics of running a business, such as payroll and how to set up shop. A favorite product that they have to offer is gluten free vegan ice cream cakes that they have ready to buy in their freezer. With these cakes being already made, you will not have to call ahead of time. Future products they are currently working on is a line of ice cream sandwiches as well as new flavors for fall. If you are in the Austin area, keep your eye out for flavors such as pumpkin, squash, and even yam!
